I never caught up to football the way I did to rugby 🏉. The most common comment I have heard about the game of rugby outside the nations where it is popular is that it’s a rough game involving bashing each other. But still there was something about the game that just grabbed my senses. I watched Invictus couple of days ago and recalled that another sports movies that I liked was Remember the Titans. That was based on American football a game that’s a distortion of rugby (not the only distortion I know of). Or I should say the plot was on the backdrop of American football.
Realization of why I like rugby more than the more popular football a.k.a soccer dawned on me when I heard the following lines in the movie Invictus.
“Football is a gentleman's game played by hooligans, and rugby is a hooligan’s game played by gentlemen."
It takes courage, after having been slammed to the ground, to just forgive the offender get up and start running again. Long live rugby.
